SOME COMMON TERMS BEFORE STARTING -

QUANTUM -

Quantum computers are machines that use the properties of quantum physics- which provides a description of physical properties of nature and at the scale of atoms and subatomic particles.

QUANTUM SUPERPOSITION-

It is one of the principles of quantum mechanics which states that the particle can exists in 2 distinct locations at the same time or you can say that it is a complex combination of both.

QUANTUM ENTANGLEMENT-

In quantum entanglement, there are entangled particles which means two particles are linked to each other and copies each other every move or you can say that the action performed on one affects other even if they are far apart.

QUBIT-

It is a quantum bit which is basic unit of information in a quantum computer. It can hold upto 2 bits of worth of data.

HOW IT IS DIFFERENT FROM BITS ?

The bit in normal computers can be 0 or 1 but qubit according to quantum mechanics can be a coherent superposition of both. Also an important feature is that qubits can exhibit quantum entanglement. Unlike bits, qubits can store more information. Qubits allows quantum computers to do certain calculations much faster than classical computers.

QUANTUM COMPUTING

In day to day life, we depend on normal or classical computers and on super computers for complex tasks such as scientific researches but yet these computers are not good at solving certain tasks. So, we need quantum computers.

The field of quantum computing started in the 1980s. Quantum computing is a new generation of computers that is based on the principles of quantum theory. In quantum computing, basic unit of memory is qubit. Superposition and entanglement are two features which allows quantum computers to work faster than other computers and at a much lesser energy consumption. Incredible processing power makes quantum computers capable of solving complex tasks. It can perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Quantum computers have the potential to change the world, solving problems in seconds that would take a classical computer entire life just to attempt to solve. It will contribute greatly and bring a revolution in the field of intelligence, drug designing(for diseases such as AIDS and cancer. It will save time for lengthy drug trials.), discovery, etc. They will be faster for many computational tasks, from modeling nature to searching large amounts of data. AI is fully dependent on algorithms, quantum computers can easily analyse very large algorithmic tables thus reaching the conclusions very correctly. Companies like IBM, Microsoft and Google are racing to build reliable quantum computers.

At current there are experimental quantum computers (most of the pictures that you see on the web are experimental quantum computers)that are operational and are being used for trials and experiments. {alertInfo}

HOWEVER, THIS WAS ONLY A SMALL BRIEF ON QUANTUM COMPUTING BUT THERE ARE MANY THINGS THAT ARE YET TO KNOW.

  1. I Like to add one more important thing here, The global Quantum Computing Market is expected to exceed USD 1853.3 Million by 2026, with CAGR at 32 % in the given forecast period.
